5 Days in Hong Kong

One of the best trips of my life was when I went to Hong Kong for 5 days with my roommate Manuel from Singapore and my friends Carlos from Washington and Mathis from France. We were all studying abroad in Korea and decided to just go for it. The crazy part is we basically backpacked the whole trip with no hotel or Airbnb. Every day we were just figuring things out as we went.

We still did a lot of the main tourist stuff like going to Victoria Peak and exploring different islands, but the best parts were the random moments. We spent a lot of time just walking around the city, trying new food, and exploring places we didn’t plan. Our biggest problem the whole time was figuring out where to sleep. Some nights we found 24 hour spots to nap, and other nights we were on benches or outside.

The wildest moment was when we went on a hike and ended up camping on a beach with no gear at all. We literally just slept on the sand and it was freezing. At one point we thought we were not going to make it through the night. We also had to be careful about animals like boars, snakes, and porcupines. Somehow a random Chinese man who was camping nearby had an extra tent and let us use it, which honestly saved us.

I would not recommend doing it like this, but being in a new country with people I barely knew made it unforgettable.
